So I just felt like I needed to write something. This came out in about 10 minutes. I had been thinking about Hyrule related stuff and thus this is the product. There is still a lot of Starya's story that needs closure, like everything that happened between the end of the war and the next generation, how exactly the test referenced in this piece worked out, and the final battle itself. This is kind of an interpretation of something that was never really finished.
Starya was about 17 at this point and had never been in any sort of romantic situation. She allowed herself to become interested in a certain Sheikah (who was very interested in her...) only to have him run off while she was missing. Woo. Drama. Yes, I wrote this in 2nd person. I don't expect it to make sense to anyone except Sarah.
And yes, he did run off after officially become the her knight. Loser. I may never forgive his player for that one. XD
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He caught your attention the first day you two met. How could he not? He was staring at you like he had never seen a girl before. Your brother laughed it up while you pointedly looked at the ground, wondering if you had something on your face or there was something in your hair.
He became your friend when he would find excuses to cross your path. Anytime at night; no matter where you went; there he was. Eventually you found excuses to keep being there for him to find.
He became something more after the first time you were both attacked. Not because he defended you or anything; you did perfectly fine without his help. Rather, it was because he ran up to you and embraced you after, telling you how amazing you were and how beautiful you were. You were shocked to silence. Your face felt like it was red for days.
He became your hero the night he found you broken and bleeding near the gates of the temple. He carried you indoors and tended to your wounds with all the care in the world. He spend the night at your side; fearful for your health. Thanks to him Hyrule’s Shadow Sage didn’t die after her first ordeal within her temple.
He became your knight after facing your temple. He fought through his own fears; dangerous beyond belief, and himself. He returned almost as broken as you did. You spent the night by his side and took care of him just as he did for you.
The first time he walked away from you was just before all hell broke loose. The very blood that ran through your veins was fighting for existence, and you had to turn your back to it because the higher powers demanded you focus on the greater cause. You had to turn your back on your clan, your father, and him. He had the decency to ask before leaving.
The last time he walked away from you was when he thought you couldn’t see. He followed the trail of a beautiful Gerudo warrior-woman. You were nothing more than a sigh on the wind; another test the greater cause demanded of you. You were left to die while your knight dropped his sword and never looked back.
He became nothing but a memory when you woke up again. Rather than your knight at your side you had your sisters, brother, and the others who were trapped in the greater cause. It was better this way; Love for anything but your land and your people was a distraction you could not afford. A sage had a purpose, after all.
